A few years ago, a few renegade inventors emerged with another incarnation of this idea, in the form of a device called an EmDrive. This electromagnetic cavity claimed to be an engine that required no fuel and emitted no exhaust. It simply required input power, and could convert that energy into thrust. This would violate the laws of physics, but the experiments seemed to indicate that it worked. Yes, I understand this is current thinking. In fact, the idea of a warp drive is still, in scientific terms, at a level of speculation rather than true science. The main issue with this technology is that nearly all of the scientific knowledge we have acquired suggests that faster-than-light travel is impossible
Assuming you can get a warp drive to work at just light speed, that still puts the nearest star at 4+ years distance. While still a vast improvement, it still makes the trip virtually impossible. The only practical way to travel interstellar distances is to fold space and make the trip instantaneously NASA has quietly, and successfully, tested an electromagnetic (EM) drive in a space-like vacuum. Some are calling the propulsion system a warp drive for its incredible potential speeds, although researchers say it falls short of faster-than-light travel
But is that something evidence for new physics? Or were all the experimental teams fooling themselves, Sonny White's team included? According to a new paper out this week, by a team led by Martin Tajmar, there was one effect that none of the teams accounted for: the magnetic fields produced by the electrical wires feeding the alleged EmDrive.“Remember, nothing locally exceeds the speed of light, but space can expand and contract at any speed,” White told io9.

Physics does not rule out the possibility that negative energy density can exist. Some have proposed that the Casimir effect — a strange but demonstrated phenomenon of quantum mechanics in which an empty vacuum can generate electromagnetic forces to pull objects toward one another — could be employed to generate a negative energy density.
There is some excitement in the net about some news of Harold White's experiment at NASA. I have uncovered it by chance at a forum. This is a well-frequented site with people at NASA posting on it and regularly updating about the work that they are carrying out. You can also have noticed some activit The very idea that you can have a "reactionless drive" is the equivalent of a perpetual motion machine: something that clearly violates the known laws of physics. An action without an equal and opposite reaction — or, as their proponents sometimes claim, without any reaction at all — would overturn a huge amount of what we know about the Universe. Yet that has never deterred some people from trying, as attempted patents on devices that break the laws of physics are put forth all the time. Many sub-fields of science are rife with tinkerers, inventors, and fringe scientists attempting to do the impossible. The EmDrive is the latest craze in a long line of these claims. Warp drive works by distorting the fabric of the spacetime, contracting spacetime in front of the spaceship and expanding it behind to create a warp continuum bubble between the two spacetime distortions in front of and behind the craft. However, it has been shown that the total integrated energy density needed to maintain the warp metric is. One of the ultimate dreams of humans everywhere is limitless, free energy. A few years ago, an inventor named Roger Shawyer claimed to have invented a working prototype of exactly such a reactionless engine. The EmDrive, short for electromagnetic drive, claimed that by setting up a resonant cavity filled with photons, where one end of the cavity was narrower than the other, you would produce a net thrust, even without any exhaust. According to Shawyer and others, these devices did, indeed, produce a small but nonzero thrust, without any detectable form of exhaust. NASA 3D model of interstellar ship powered by wrap drive. This would result in space-time moving around the object, repositioning the ship without it actually moving. You might be thinking to yourself right now “Faster-than-light travel? But Einstein!” Yes, according to Einstein’s theory of relativity, nothing can travel faster than the speed of light. But scientists are looking for ways to get around this, and a team based at NASA Eagleworks, led by Dr Harold “Sonny” White, have been working on just that. They discovered a loophole that could theoretically allow faster-than-light travel without breaking the laws of physics. How? Warp drive, of course!

This is called an Alcubierre warp drive, named after physicist Miguel Alcubierre who first suggested it in a paper entitled, The Warp Drive: Hyper-fast travel within general relativity. At last week's symposium NASA physicist Harold White, presented a refined view of the Alcubierre warp drive that theoretically could wrap around a mass. So of course, White’s new design incorporates these ideas and involves “a sleek ship nestled at the center of two enormous rings, which create the warp bubble,” 3D artist Mark Rademaker explained to io9. You can check out some more of Rademaker and White's ship design here. Shawyer has gone on record saying that this new drive produced warp bubbles which allow the drive to move, claiming that this is how NASA's test results were likely achieved But his critics say it is, in the words of Star Trek's Spock, "highly illogical" as in order for a thruster to work something must be pushed out the back to comply with physics' laws.
All this recent crap about NASA working on an Alcubierre drive is a stupid pop-sci jerkoff. Any civilization capable of producing the exotic matter required to get the thing working would have mastered the complexities of space travel tens of thousands of years ago, using much less complex and more achievable means If you’d like to find out more, watch this clip below from 41:54 to see White discussing the design:Do space-time warping devices have to be deployed along the path of the starship, like a railroad, for it to work?
The mystery deepened, however, in 2016, when a NASA team led by wild-idea enthusiast Harold "Sonny" White built their own prototype, tested it, and found that there was, indeed, thrust that they couldn't explain. As they turned up the power on the device, they saw additional thrust, and no signature at all of any "reaction" to balance out this action. It would mean, if this were correct, a violent overthrow of the laws of physics as we understood them. When you look at the data the team collected and published, it seems like there's a pretty clear signature of, well, something. warp drive concept NASA's warp drive concept This is the FUTURE, people!NASA's warp drive concept This is the FUTURE, people! NASA scientists have reported that they've successfully tested an engine called the electromagnetic propulsion drive, or the EM Drive, in a vacuum that replicates space. Nonetheless, some NASA scientists led by Harold G. White, a physicist at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, have played around with the concept. They say they have found a way to configure the hypothetical negative energy matter so that the warping could be accomplished with a mass equivalent to the Voyager spacecraft.
